Tracey Cox investigates whether laughter is the best way to pull.A recent study showed that if you’re a man and you make a woman laugh when you first meet her, she’s guaranteed to fancy you more than if you don’t make her laugh. And you’re far more likely to find her attractive as well. When it comes to funny women, though, it doesn’t appear to have the same effect. A woman can make a man laugh his head off but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he finds her more attractive. Him laughing at her funny stories doesn’t make her fancy him more either. So that’s the official line – but, quite frankly, I disagree. In my experience – and I’ve been researching and writing about relationships for an awfully long time – funny people are nearly always more popular and attractive to others. So ignore that research, girls – and keep on making him laugh. Having a good sense of humour is always, always going to take you places. If you’re out on a date and it all goes horribly wrong, what’s the best response? To burst out laughing - that’s laughing together, not at the other person. While we’re on the subject of being happy - make yourself happy! Don’t expect other people to do it. True happiness comes from within. Start a ‘feel good’ folder. Fill it with records of your achievements, cards or messages from friends saying how wonderful you are and look through it whenever you feel down.
