Are women better at dumping nicely?

Men hate dumping women because women cry. Most men would rather attend a poetry reading than hand out the tissues – and that’s why they always try the silent dump before anything else.But there are quicker, kinder and less stressful ways to do it. Women need reasons for things. If you give them a pretty plausible reason why you don’t want to go out any more, they’ll still be upset but at least they will know why. So first decide on a reason – if you don’t want to tell the truth or you think it would hurt her, use a cliché. “It’s not you, it’s me. I’m a commitment phobe.” Choose your time – make it sooner rather than later but avoid days like her birthday, Christmas and the anniversary of when you first met. Then get it over and done with. Say: “I’m really sorry but I think we should split up. I think you’re a terrific person but I don’t see this heading anywhere.” Follow this up with your reason why, then wait for her to react. Hang around long enough to answer her questions and answer tactfully but honestly. When it becomes clear that there’s nothing more to say, leave. If she’s in a real mess, ask her whether you can call someone to come around. Even if she says no, get on your phone the minute you’re out the door and call her best friend. Yes, she will give you a hard time but that’s all part of being a grown-up, I’m afraid. This is the way to dump someone nicely. Not by disappearing and not by text or email. Yes, it’ll be tough, but going underground for two months wasn’t going to be easy either, was it now?
